Madeleine McCann was nearly four years old when she went missing from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal on May 3rd 2007 while her parents dined with friends nearby.
Within a days it became apparent that nearby was a few yards which then became a more accurate 120 yards. Compared to like dining at the bottom of the garden while the kids played in the house, someone unbolted the front door and the army of conspiracy theorists set up camp in the living room. With their rickety and insubstantial theories they set about creating their own parodies of the truth with which to bash and deride the pain of the McCann family.
With that the Madeleine McCann conspiracy was born.
That’s not to say that all conspiracies should be treated with the contempt a great many of the Madeleine McCann theories deserve. Some conspiracies have been proved in time to be completely accurate and we were right to questions such obvious attempts to cover them up. For an example you might want to familiarise yourselves with the Iran-Contra (also known as the Irangate) conspiracy, the Watergate conspiracy which effectively ended the presidency of Nixon, the assassination of John F Kennedy or the burning of the Reichstag building in 1933. The latter two conspiracies still hotly debated in such circles where the “foil hatters” congregate to swap stories around a glowing LCD.
All it takes is for a crack to appear in a story, just enough of a crack for the seed of doubt to fall and take root in amongst where it quickly grows tall to over shadow the truth and facts. With Madeleine that seed of doubt fell on fertile ground when the truth of the distance of where the parents were dining and their apartment became documented evidence. So with it came the piercing screams of neglect and questions of the parents suitability to have children in their care.
Myths are manufactured and passed around like a cigarette laced with dope becoming the corner stones of the conspiracy theory on which to build their theories with prefabricated pieces taken from other conspiracy sites. One of these corner stones is upon which the whole attack is coordinated at the McCanns. Inquisitive visitors who stumble across Madeleine forums and have the stomach to stick with it will be told that on the night Madeleine went missing her parents telephoned the UK media before contacting the police. This myth was contrived to blacken the characters of the parents and is a cheap stock answer for the foil hatters to refer to when any of their other points are demolished with just a modicum of reasoning and a casual familiarity with the facts of the case. “..but, but but they called the media before the police” they splutter out as if in some way it justifies the wild and vulgar theories that they sell, mostly prostitute across the internet.
These are not fairy tales because a fairy tale always has a happy ending. The foil hatters who seek to darken the name of Madeleine McCann want only pain and suffering to conclude this whole affair. The more violent and unjust the better. There are even those who have said they will kill others in Madeleine’s name including her own mother and father. Asked why they will tell you because it is for the truth of Madeleine that they do it. It is an unselfish act on their behalf that they are willing to sacrifice their life for hers by casually dismissing serving a custodial sentence at her Majesty’s pleasure. Are they really doing it for a little Madeleine or are they doing it for selfish needs ?
Who weeps for the lost Madeleine in all of this conspiracy?
Certainly not those that sell the conspiracy for whatever their motivations whether they be cancerous or benign, they have their emotional investment to think of and protect, they do not consider her young life.
At the centre of the Madeleine Conspiracy is Madeleine McCann. A small child that went missing while on holiday with her family in Portugal. She remains missing and her family want her back.
